$750 Checks to Be Issued in October – Know Eligibility Criteria and Payment Dates for This State

Stimulus checks are a form of immediate financial relief that provides support when the cost of living is high and economic activity is low. This month, several states across the U.S. are sending out stimulus payments to assist residents. Rhode Island is one such state offering tax rebates to eligible families to help cover increased living expenses.

Rhode Island’s tax rebate program is part of the Rhode Island Tax Rebate Program, which started in 2023. It targets families with children, providing $250 per child with a maximum payout of $750 for families with three or more children. The rebate is aimed at reducing the financial strain on low- and middle-income households, making daily expenses slightly more manageable.

To qualify, individuals must have an annual income of less than $100,000, while married couples filing jointly must earn under $200,000. Rhode Island estimates that over 115,000 families will benefit from this initiative.

The process is automatic—residents don’t need to apply. Instead, the rebates will be distributed based on 2021 tax returns. Any parent who claimed a child under 18 as a dependent on their 2021 federal and state personal income tax filings will receive this rebate.

With a lack of affordable homes, both rent and property prices have climbed sharply, making it difficult for residents to find suitable housing options. “Fortunately, between federal funds and a one-time surplus, we were able to offer relief to Rhode Islanders in several ways, including this child tax credit that will be helpful to families during challenging times,” said Speaker of the Rhode Island House of Representatives K. Joseph Shekarchi. This program aims to offer some respite to families who are dealing with elevated costs across all sectors.

The Rhode Island Division of Taxation will be managing the rebate distribution. “We are happy to help the Governor provide financial aid to Rhode Island families at this critical time for the state’s economy,” commented Neena S. Savage, Tax Administrator. The Division is working diligently to get the money into the hands of taxpayers as quickly as possible to provide immediate financial support.

This effort aligns with what other states are doing. Alaska, for example, is sending out one of the largest rebates, valued at $3,200, through its Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) program. Idaho is also launching a second round of stimulus checks for its residents. As more states take action, these rebates will provide vital support to residents struggling with economic pressures.
